Kyiv – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has unmasked what he claims is a “spy fleet” of Russian oil tankers, accusing Moscow of using the civilian vessels for military intelligence and sabotage operations.
This startling allegation suggests that Russia is embedding covert operations within its legitimate commercial activities. Zelenskyy stated that the tankers were being used for “reconnaissance and even sabotage activities” in addition to generating revenue for the war.
The Ukrainian government is mobilizing an international response. Zelenskyy said that he is collaborating with allies to develop countermeasures, expressing his firm belief that “it is entirely possible to stop this” unconventional threat.
This development came as Russian President Vladimir Putin was heralding his army’s progress on the battlefield. He claimed that his forces had seized nearly 5,000 square kilometers of Ukrainian land in 2025 and that Russia now holds the “complete strategic initiative.”
Putin also used the occasion to issue a grave warning to the United States. He cautioned that supplying Ukraine with Tomahawk long-range missiles would trigger a “qualitatively new stage of escalation” and lead to the collapse of U.S.-Russia relations.
