Zelensky Urges World Not to Stay Silent on Russian Claims

Date:

President Volodymyr Zelensky has made a direct appeal urging the world not to remain silent in the face of Russian allegations about a drone attack on Putin’s residence. The Ukrainian leader emphasized that international voices are critical to preventing Russian manipulation of peace efforts.
Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov accused Ukraine of launching 91 long-range drones at the presidential compound in Novgorod region over December 28-29. He characterized the alleged operation as reckless state terrorism and warned that Russia would respond with military force. Lavrov confirmed that despite successful interception of all drones by air defense systems, the incident would influence Moscow’s negotiating position.
Zelensky dismissed Russian claims as complete fabrications, arguing that Moscow was creating false justification for strikes on Ukrainian government buildings in Kyiv. He suggested that Russia was deliberately attempting to sabotage diplomatic progress, particularly efforts involving Trump administration representatives. The Ukrainian president stressed that global silence in such circumstances effectively enables Russian manipulation.
According to Russian accounts, air defense networks successfully eliminated all incoming threats to the presidential compound. However, Lavrov indicated that the alleged attack attempt would necessitate reassessment of Russia’s approach to ongoing discussions. He confirmed that Russian military planners had identified specific targets for potential strike operations.
Zelensky’s appeal to the international community specifically called for active engagement rather than passive observation. He warned that Moscow’s allegations threatened to disrupt diplomatic momentum at a critical moment when various parties were working toward common ground. The Ukrainian president referenced Russia’s history of attacking Ukrainian government facilities as evidence of a pattern where Moscow accuses others of actions it regularly commits. He emphasized that preventing successful Russian disruption of peace processes requires sustained global attention and vocal international response. Zelensky stressed that the critical nature of the current moment demands that world leaders speak out forcefully rather than allowing Russian narratives to go unchallenged.
