Carney: Trump’s Leadership Could Open Door to Peace in Ukraine

Date:

Prime Minister Mark Carney has said that U.S. President Donald Trump’s leadership is “creating the opportunity to end Russia’s war in Ukraine.”
Carney welcomed Washington’s openness to offering security guarantees as part of international efforts to secure a just and lasting peace. He stressed that robust commitments are essential to ensure Ukraine’s sovereignty and long-term stability.
He also confirmed that Canada is coordinating closely with Ukraine and international partners to strengthen both military and economic support. According to Carney, Ukrainians must ultimately determine their own future, but diplomatic initiatives should be reinforced with strong pressure on Russia.
Recent talks between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin concluded without a ceasefire deal, but Trump pledged to pursue a broader peace agreement and continue discussions with Ukrainian leadership in the coming days.
