“Productive” Call, But “No Plans”: The Confusing State of US-Russia Summit

The state of a potential US-Russia summit is confusing. A “productive” call between top diplomats on Monday has been followed by “no plans” for a presidential meeting, according to a US official.
The official, speaking anonymously on Tuesday, said “no plans” exist for Trump to meet Putin in the “immediate future.” This counters Trump’s post last week claiming a Budapest summit was two weeks away.
The call between Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov was arranged to plan that summit.
The Kremlin added to the new timeline, stating Tuesday there is “no precise timeframe” for a meeting.
This reversal comes as Trump was also scheduled to meet Ukraine’s president to discuss providing Tomahawk missiles, and despite Trump’s boasts that his “personal chemistry” with Putin could end the war.
