The easing of travel restrictions by New Zealand for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is poised to boost tourism and travel between the two nations, potentially accelerating the UAE’s ongoing recovery in its tourism sector. With New Zealand lowering its travel advisory from Level 3 to Level 2, New Zealanders are now encouraged to exercise increased caution but can freely travel to or transit through the UAE.
This change is expected to support travel demand as international tourism rebounds following disruptions from regional conflicts. The UAE, particularly Dubai, has witnessed a notable recovery in visitor numbers. In August, Dubai recorded 869,000 international overnight visitors, marking the highest monthly influx since February. Hotel occupancy rates also saw significant improvement, rising to 66% in August from 36% in March.
New Zealand’s decision aligns with the UAE’s broader efforts to restore its tourism and aviation sectors. The UAE is actively seeking the removal of travel warnings from other countries, aiming to encourage more international visitors. Several nations have already eased their advisories, although some continue to advise caution or limit travel to essential trips only.
Richard Kay, New Zealand’s Ambassador to the UAE, expressed optimism about the updated advisory, welcoming New Zealanders back to the UAE for both tourism and transit. This development is anticipated to enhance travel connections between New Zealand and the UAE, contributing to the latter’s economic recovery through increased visitor numbers.
