Prime Minister Carney to Attend Israel-Hamas Peace Summit in Egypt

Date:

Prime Minister Mark Carney will travel to Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, to attend an international peace summit aimed at reinforcing the recently brokered truce between Israel and Hamas. The summit, co-chaired by Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi, will bring together leaders from more than 20 nations, including France, Germany, the U.K., and several Middle Eastern countries.
The meeting follows a three-day truce that has allowed humanitarian aid to reach civilians in Gaza as Israel scales back its military presence. The agreement also includes a hostage-prisoner exchange, with Hamas expected to release around 20 Israeli hostages in return for Palestinian detainees, along with the return of several deceased hostages.
While the truce marks a step toward easing tensions, discussions in Egypt will focus on achieving a long-term ceasefire, rebuilding Gaza, and advancing peace efforts across the Middle East. Leaders are also expected to explore ways to strengthen regional cooperation and promote lasting stability.
