Gourmet Salts: Don’t Be Fooled by the Hype

Date:

Artisan salts with intriguing colors and textures catch the eye and promise healthful virtues, but are these claims based on science or just clever marketing? The food industry has made a fortune convincing us there’s a meaningful nutritional difference.
In reality, experts stress that any added minerals in natural salts are so minuscule that they provide no measurable benefit. Table salt, meanwhile, is typically fortified with iodine, a crucial nutrient missing from most fancy salts.
The central issue remains unchanged: consuming too much salt, regardless of its source, increases the risk of issues like hypertension and kidney damage. Bread, sauces, and processed foods are often loaded with “invisible” sodium that can fly under your radar.
For real health results, skip the salt swap and start gradually reducing your total intake. Opt for fresh ingredients and cook more at home for better control over sodium.
